Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Almo, ID.

One of the outpatient rehab alternatives for clients in Almo battling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are certified to administer specific medications to opioid dependent clients, many that are opioid-based also and are addiction. With low doses the client doesn't feel high but also doesn't experience acute cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug used for this purpose, but there are a few more options currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an out-patient clinic licensed to dispense the drug, which is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The price of the drug is approximately $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based drug, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is about $300 a month for the generic version of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and is priced about $450 /month. Naltrexone is an additional drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
