DWI clients in rehab need to complete specific requirements to satisfy the terms of their sentencing. Rehab programs that help satisfy these court requirements and terms, which are usually more lenient than normal sentencing which would include heavy fines and jail time, are available in Declo to provide educational services, group counseling, and further evaluation for individuals with heavy drug or alcohol issues.
Drug and Alcohol Education is an essential treatment tool used at rehabs treating DWI offenders. There are a few different levels of alcohol education which can vary by state. Level I education typically consist of 12 hours of group education about the effects and dangers of drugs and/or alcohol. This is the what a person with a first conviction or someone under the age of 21 will commonly be required to do. Level II courses would include both substance abuse education and therapy in a program which is approved by the courts. How long an individual will have to be in therapy depends on certain considerations, which can be, for example, how many DWI's the individual has had, and the severity of the offense. Most often clients will be required to take the Level II classes and therapy unless their blood-alcohol content was extremely low when they were arrested and there were no other serious charges when the offender was arrested.
