Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Georgetown, ID.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Georgetown which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and it is encouraged.
