Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Hauser, ID.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Hauser that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead not engage in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a small amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary services, and this is encouraged.
