Young adults within the ages of 18 and 24 have access to drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities built specifically for this age group. The most comprehensive rehabilitation available for young adults is at an inpatient treatment facility in Iona which provides a wider spectrum of recovery services than outpatient programs. Substance abuse issues and co-occurring mental health disorders can be handled simultaneously in drug treatment programs for young adults which have therapists or psychologists on site to manage co-occurring disorders.
Young adults attending treatment programs which specifically treat their demographic benefit from having the peer support on hand and the compassion of rehab staff who are usually trained and knowledgeable at treating young adults.
The duration of treatment can vary for young adult recovery facilities, and this is usually determined based off the client's progress throughout the program. The more progressed the issue is, the longer it could be advised that the young adult remains in the program. If outpatient rehab is the only option available, this too should be thorough enough to meet the client's needs. For example, there are outpatient programs for young adults which only require the client to participate in counseling and therapy 1 or 2 times per week, and there are programs which require daily attendance.
