Crisis Intervention Team - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Moscow, ID.

A crisis situation, such as a person struggling with the destructive effects of a mental health disability such as alcoholism or drug addiction, calls for an intervention directed by professionals who can make sure they accept the help they so desperately need before it's too late. A Crisis Intervention Team in Moscow is a form of community monitoring which calls upon and activates law enforcement, healthcare, and other relevant agencies as well as family members to assist addicts in crisis. This begins with the training of healthcare providers, law enforcement officers, and other relevant team members in the community so they learn how to react and work together during such a crisis. There are training programs available to educate law enforcement officers and 911 emergency dispatchers for example, which involves 40 hours of training in dealing with the mental health professionals they will be working with during the crisis intervention, learning verbal de-escalation techniques so that they can address and resolve the crisis without it becoming a potentially dangerous or aggressive episode, etc.

In many cases, Crisis Intervention Teams are used as a means of jail diversion. Meaning, being able to appropriately respond to what is really meant to be a health episode and not a crime keeps individuals having a mental health crisis out of jail and instead where they should be, in treatment and receiving help. Additionally this keeps individuals with mental health issues out of prison where they do not have access to adequate mental health therapy and resources to effectively address their issue, such as a substance abuse disorder. Instead of jail, individuals in crisis can receive behavioral therapies, counseling, medication and other mental health services to rehabilitate them. This not only helps the individual in crisis, but also the entire community because it costs more to keep someone with a mental health disorder in prison than it does to properly treat them in a mental health recovery program.
