Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Evanston, IN.

One of the outpatient rehabilitation alternatives for people in Evanston who are struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are authorized to administer certain medications to opioid dependent clients, many of which are opioids also and are habit forming. With low enough doses the client doesn't feel high but also does not have severe cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication used for this reason, but there are a few more options currently to pick from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an out-patient clinic certified to administer the drug, that is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based med, and is a pill often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in highly structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is approximately $300 a month for the generic version of the drug. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a drug that reverses the effects of opioids. A person taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs about $450 a month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it's an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
