Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Star City, IN.

Vivitrol is a drug mainly administered to prevent drug use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, that is available via injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when someone drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that should be be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. Firstly, a client who with the intent to begin Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This is including clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least seven days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Star City which also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak to your therapist or doctor in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you build and maintain the sober life you want.
