The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid rehab programs, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Belpre are programs who are officially permitted to dispense the medications used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary benefits in addition to medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment facility can receive initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the type of certification that was given.
