The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals.
