The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Burns are programs who are officially permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment program can receive initial approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year.
