The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Drug given are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients.
