Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Kingman, KS.

Vivitrol is a med mainly administered to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, that one can get through a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are particular safety measures that should be be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. Firstly, a person who with the intent to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This includes clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of seven days if they want to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with an addiction treatment program in Kingman which also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you live the drug-free life you want.
