The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehab facilities, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab facilities in Lansing are programs who are officially allowed to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary benefits aside from medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment program can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
