The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehab programs, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Lawrence are programs which are legally allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. An opioid rehab center can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office.
