The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the administering of opioid rehab facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine given are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Leon are programs who are legally allowed to give out the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary benefits in addition to medication like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate.
