The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. An opioid rehabilitation program can receive basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the type of certification it has been given.
