The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients.
