The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Mcconnell AFB are programs which are officially permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid rehabilitation center can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab center is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of accreditation it has been granted.
