The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Morrill are programs that are legally allowed to distribute the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation facility can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the type of certification that was granted.
