The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Reading are programs which are legally permitted to distribute the drugs used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab facility can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab facility is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
