The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment programs, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Towanda are programs that are legally allowed to dispense the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services aside from medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid rehab facility can get their basic approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of certification that was given.
