Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Nebo, KY.

Vivitrol is a med mainly administered to help prevent drug use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the medication Naltrexone, which one can get via injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when someone takes a drink of alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a client who intends to start Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given meds such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or someone who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of a week in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Nebo which also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak with your doctor or therapist about how pharmacological tools can help you maintain the drug and alcohol free life you want.
