Medicare is a federal program which helps pay for health benefits for individuals living in the U.S. who are either disabled or 65 years of age or older. For individuals that do have Medicare and require substance abuse treatment in Stanford, Medicare may pay for various rehab programs and treatment services. Medicare consists of different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering various kinds of treatment.

Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A covers inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and up to 60 days in treatment without a co-pay but policy holders will be required to pay a deductible. People who have Part C may have more insurance benefits available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers substance abuse related medications. Including medications needed for withdrawal symptoms during detoxification as well as those used for maintenance therapy such as buprenorphine or methadone.
