Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a form of treatment for a substance abuse problem that is substantially more comprehensive and involved than a standard outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is an essential action for clients in Tram who have recently completed inpatient or residential rehab, and still need adequate assistance and intervention while they transition to a clean and sober and ethical lifestyle. IOP's involve therapy which takes place more often than regular outpatient, where the person will participate in the treatment on a part time basis unless otherwise determined.
Intensive outpatient treatment usually consists of group and sometimes individualized counseling sessions to continue to work on the individual's addiction. Individual sessions often occur at least once a week, and group sessions will provide the peer support that is often crucial for long term sobriety. While in intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on improving relapse prevention skills, managing every day challenges and triggers, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings. Some intensive outpatient rehab centers offer family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which can be beneficial for people who need to repair their lives with their loved ones and family members.
