The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab facilities in Baton Rouge are programs that are legally permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services aside from medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid treatment facility can get their initial approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the type of certification that was granted.
