Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a form of recovery from a substance abuse problem that is substantially more involved and comprehensive than a normal outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental activity for individuals in Braithwaite who have just completed inpatient or residential treatment, and still require moderate assistance and encouragement while they transition to a drug free and ethical way of living. IOP's consist of treatment which occurs much more often than regular outpatient, where the person will participate in the treatment usually once or twice a week unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment normally consists of group and sometimes individualized counseling sessions to continue to help address the person's addiction. Individual sessions may take place at least once a week, and group sessions can provide the peer support that is essential for long term recovery. In intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on improving relapse prevention abilities, managing every day challenges and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment centers offer family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which may be beneficial for clients who must repair their lives with their loved ones and family members.
