Someone taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and costs about $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
