Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Fort Polk, LA.

One of the outpatient treatment options for people in Fort Polk who are battling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some facilities and doctors are certified to administer certain medications to opioid addicted people, many of which are opioids themselves and are habit forming. In low amounts however, the individual doesn't experience being high but also doesn't have severe cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication tried for this reason, but there are alternative choices currently to pick from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center certified to administer the med, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is around one hundred and fifty dolloars a month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based drug, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone which can only be administered in highly well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is approximately three hundred dollars per month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a med which reverses the effects of opioids. Someone consuming this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs around $450 per month. Naltrexone is another drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
