Intensive outpatient treatment, or "IOP", is a method of treatment for a substance abuse problem that is substantially more comprehensive and involved than a regular outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental action for people in Ida who have recently completed inpatient or residential rehab, and still require moderate assistance and intervention while they transition to a drug free and ethical lifestyle. IOP's consist of therapy which takes place more often than normal outpatient, where clients will participate in treatment services and activities usually once or twice a week unless otherwise determined.
Intensive outpatient treatment typically consists of individual and group counseling and therapy sessions to continue to treat the person's addiction. Individual sessions will occur at least once a week, and group sessions can add the peer support that is often crucial for long term sobriety. While in intensive outpatient treatment, focus is placed on building relapse prevention skills, managing every day challenges and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any discomforts and drug cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment programs offer family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which can be vital for clients who need to repair their lives with their loved ones and family members.
