SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Independence, LA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid rehab facilities, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Independence are programs who are legally permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary services aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab program can receive initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification it has been granted.
