Medicare is a federal program that helps pay for medical healthcare services for people living in the U.S. who are either disabled or 65 and older. Medicare consists of different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering certain kinds of care.

Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A covers inpatient substance rehabilitation, and up to 60 days in treatment without a co-pay but policy holders will have to pay a deductible. Medicare only covers 190 days of inpatient care total, this applies to the individual's lifetime.

It also pays for professional interventions.

Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an option for clients who want supplemental health insurance apart from what the other parts of Medicare have to offer. Individuals who have Part C may have more insurance benefits available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D pays for drug and alcohol addiction medications. Including medications used for withdrawal symptoms during detoxification and medications required for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
