The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Scott are programs which are legally permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary benefits aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab center can receive basic approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification that was granted.
