The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid rehab facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab centers in St. Amant are programs who are legally permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services aside from medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office.
