SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - St. Bernard, LA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in St. Bernard are programs who are legally permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary benefits aside from medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab facility can receive basic approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of accreditation that was granted.
