SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - St. James, LA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehab facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine prescribed are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in St. James are programs who are officially permitted to give out the medications used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services aside from medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every three years depending on the type of certification that was granted.
