SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - St. Landry, LA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in St. Landry are programs that are officially allowed to give out the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation program can get their initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the kind of certification that was granted.
