Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - Vidalia, LA.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug or alcohol abuse and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the med Naltrexone, which one can get through a monthly injection. It isn't habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would usually be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially cannot get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that should be be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a client who with the intent to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or someone who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of a week in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Vidalia which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak with your therapist or doctor in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you maintain the drug and alcohol free life you want.
