The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the administering of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Welsh are programs that are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive ancillary benefits aside from medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment center can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment program is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation it has been given.
