Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - Feeding Hills, MA.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Feeding Hills that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
