The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, members of the military can obtain drug and alcohol treatment services in South Yarmouth. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members are permitted to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly accepted. In additional to this, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
