One of the out-patient rehabilitation options for clients in Harmony who are struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some facilities and doctors are certified to dispense certain meds to opioid addicted clients, many of which are opioid-based themselves and are addictive. With low amounts however, the client does not feel high and also doesn't have acute cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to dispense the med, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the drug is around $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone which can only be administered in highly structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars /month for the generic of the drug. There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opioids. An individual consuming this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs around $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
