Naltrexone is an additional medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it is an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from experience high feelings from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse.
