Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Temple, ME.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Temple that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and it is encouraged.
