SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Wallagrass, ME.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehab programs, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Wallagrass are programs who are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary services aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment center can receive basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
