One of the out-patient treatment alternatives for people in West Poland struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some facilities and doctors are authorized to administer specific medications to opioid dependent clients, many of which are opioids also and are addiction. With low amounts however, the client does not experience high feelings and also doesn't have intense cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first med administered for this reason, but there are a few more options currently to select from.
Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to administer the med, that is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The price of the med is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But different from Methadone which is only be given in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is approximately three hundred dollars a month for the generic of the drug. There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a drug which reverses the effects of opioids. A person taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and costs about $450 per month. Naltrexone is another drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 per month.
