The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and obtain referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can acquire substance abuse treatment services in Albion. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be allowed to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually permitted. In additional to this, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
