The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can acquire drug and alcohol treatment services in Ludington. This encompasses individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various rehab services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be allowed to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically permitted. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
