The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid rehab programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Saginaw are programs which are officially allowed to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive ancillary benefits aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid treatment facility can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid rehab programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the type of accreditation that was given.
