Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - Walkerville, MI.

One of the out-patient treatment alternatives for individuals in Walkerville who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are authorized to administer specific medications to opioid addicted clients, many of which are opioid-based also and are addictive. With low amounts however, the user does not experience being high but also does not experience intense cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication used for this sole purpose, but there are a few more choices to choose from.

Methadone is an opioid and can be taken at an out-patient clinic licensed to dispense the med, that is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is around $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone which can only be dispensed in highly well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about three hundred dollars monthly for the generic version of the med. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a med which reverses the effects of opioids. Someone consuming this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs around $450 per month. Naltrexone is another medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
