Mental health treatment is often an important component of the treatment of drug & alcohol abuse disorders, due to the fact that a considerably large number of individuals with an addiction disorder struggle with a co-occurring mental health issue. The necessity for dual diagnosis rehabilitation has become increasingly apparent over the last few years, and many rehab programs in Echo also provide dual diagnosis rehabilitation as part of a wider range of services over and above traditional and more progressive treatment for addiction.
In many instances, mental health treatment involves the initial diagnosis of an individual's disorder, especially when addiction is present. In many cases, the individual doesn't even realize they have an undiagnosed anxiety disorder or are suffering with depression until it is diagnosed in a mental health clinic or treatment facility. Once diagnosed, steps can be completed to help the individual become mentally stable, and this can include the use of certain counseling, therapies, and possibly medication administration or cessation of medication. In many cases however, individuals struggling with a dual diagnosis are self-medicating with substance use or possibly misusing their medications. In these cases, rehab staff and mental health professionals can evaluate medication histories and suggest steps which can be introduced to remove the need for medication. Patients can be harmlessly weaned off of medications which may be doing more harm than good, or those which they are inclined to misuse.
